2022 is an exceptional vintage on several counts: exceptional climate, very deep color, high intensity of taste and superb concentration of aromas.

“Cool blue fruits on the nose, a little shy at this point. Intensely fruited, really rich and ripe but clean and clear, giving a depth of ripe blackcurrants but juicy, fresh and alive. Almost sharp, it’s intense with bite to the fruit and such lean tannins that give a firm but light grip to the mouth. I like the attack, it’s bold and confident but refined at the same time. Good fruit profile, balancing acidity and lovely lean, mineral tannins. Well structured, nothing too much or overdone with freshness throughout. Well worked with precision. Spicy, black pepper, cedar, tobacco, liquorice, a touch of coffee, but all giving nuance underneath the fruit, tannins and acidity. It’s concentrated no doubt, this has power, but is presented carefully with such a lifted, juicy finish. This will be a beauty.”

“The nose shows its tobacco leaf, cedar, lead pencil and currant side with a single swirl. On the palate, the wine is soft, polished, and fresh, with black raspberries, currants, licorice ,and most importantly, sweetness, and lift to the red berries as well as a nice licorice accent on the back of the finish. Give it a few years in the cellar before pulling a cork, and it will be even better. The wine blends 74% Cabernet Sauvignon with 26% Merlot. 14% ABV. 3.7 pH. The harvest took place September 8 – September 27. Drink from 2026-2050.”

“Inky, powerful colour, edges of heady incense on the nose but this feels more rooted in Paullac for me than many vintages of Lynch Moussas, delivering intense cassis and dark fruit character, edges of crushed rose petals, clove and tar. Plenty of fresh mint leaf coming through as well, with a real sense of poise. It feels like part of the Château Batailley family this year, more than usual, a buy. 57% new oak.”

“Lynch Moussas is the up-and-coming sister estate of Batailley from Pauillac. The 2022 Lynch Moussas is 74% Cabernet Sauvignon and 26% Merlot, aged in 57% new barriques. Black color. Dense and enormously fleshy on the nose, the Lynch Moussas has very good intensity with balsamic notes overtones. In the mouth it also shows rich, intensely structured and very compact, with massive, dense tannin extraction. Very coherent extraction with plenty of breed and punchy depth. Creamy sweetness and nice, round style with cassis in the finish.”
